Beverly Hills, CA (The Open Press) September 8, 2008 — Kids born and raised on farms, when compared to suburban and city kids, are 50% less likely to develop eczema, and other kinds of allergic conditions like asthma and hay fever, says a new study from Australia. Although there are skin care products that can help eczema, being able to prevent it is far preferable.

The Aussie researchers surveyed nearly 600 children between five and seventeen years old and 1,333 farmers. They concluded that exposure to farm animals prior and subsequent to birth may have led to the resistance to allergic conditions.

Other studies have already shown that exposing children to dogs and cats at a young age has a similar effect, probably by helping build the immune system against common allergens.

However, before you decide on a career change and pack your bags for a life in the country, you should know that there are many factors other than farm animals that could have played a role in the Australian study results.

Other studies have shown, for example, that the closer you live to freeways and high traffic areas, the higher the risk of eczema and similar skin conditions. In fact, eczema has reached epidemic proportions in industrialized nations, and it’s not likely the absence of farm animals that’s causing the problem.

In addition to airborne pollutants, other chemical exposure also comes into play. Chemical additives in our processed, canned and packaged food, meat from animals fed antibiotics, hormones and other chemicals, and household cleansers and skin care products loaded with chemicals are prime examples.

Since it’s unlikely that many of the farmers surveyed for the Australian study have a high level of exposure to industrial and mass-farming pollutants, and it’s unlikely that farmers’ wives are as focused on trying out one new chemical-laden skin care product after another in search of the fountain of youth, it might be safe to say that the results of the study may have been skewed by the fact that farms offer cleaner air, more sunshine, more natural food, more outdoor exercise and an all-round healthier lifestyle.

Before you make any drastic moves, give adopting a healthier lifestyle in an urban environment a try. Eliminate as many chemicals as possible and if you already have eczema, use a shielding lotion. A good shielding lotion prevents the absorption of both airborne chemicals and those found in household cleansers and skin care products.

A healthy, natural lifestyle, including natural skin care products that don’t cause or exacerbate skin problems, could be all the help you need. But if you’ve got room for a goat, that might help, too.

I just heard about a cool new product. Honestly, I’ve never heard of wrinkle concealers until now. I’d read a discussion about Deception Wrinkle Cream on one of the message boards I frequent and from the sound of it, it sounds really interesting.

I believe it should be used along with a wrinkle/skin firming cream to get the best results.

The marketing of Deception Wrinkle Cream says that the human eye can’t really see wrinkles, you can only see shadows those wrinkles leave. That makes sense. So they’re not marketing it as a “wrinkle cure” per se, it just conceals the wrinkles you do have.

That’s why I say you should have another wrinkle cream to work on actually firming up the skin.

Concealing is a good idea, I can’t believe I didn’t think there was a product for this sooner. I’m going to try Deception Wrinkle Cream and a few other concealers I’ve found during research, and I’ll let you know whick ones are best.

It could very well be that Deception isn’t the best or the cheapest. I’ll try it for a week and let you know.

Feeling and Looking Beautiful

Want to be more beautiful instantaneously? Look in the mirror, and Just Think: Other people see you as 20 percent better looking than you see yourself. Have you been telling yourself you’re less attractive than you actually are? Eva Ritvo, a South Beach psychiatrist, and Debra Luftman, a Beverly Hills dermatologist, reveal in The Beauty Prescription that beauty isn’t just skin deep. In their individual practices they found that women who feel good on the inside, mirror that feeling on the outside. A positive self-image and emphasis on individual strengths is as important as a healthy environment, a sensible diet and an effective skin regimen.

Beverly Hills, CA (PRWEB) August 4, 2008 — It’s no secret that humans are obsessed by beauty. After all, research shows that beautiful people earn more money, get further ahead in their careers and are generally happier, but what is the source of lasting beauty? In The Beauty Prescription (McGraw-Hill; August, 2008; Hardcover, $24.95), Beverly Hills dermatologist, Dr. Debra Luftman, and South Beach Psychiatrist, Dr. Eva Ritvo, combine their expertise to take a unique look at the beauty of the body and mind to create an inspirational guide to feeling beautiful, inside and out.

Dr. Debra and Dr. Eva, “The Beauty and Brain Doctors”, reveal that beauty isn’t just skin deep - how you feel about yourself and act towards the world around you has as much to do with your beauty as your weight or the quality of your skin. They discovered in their individual practices that women who feel good on the inside, mirror that feeling on the outside. A positive self-image and emphasis on individual strengths is as important as a healthy environment, a sensible diet and an effective skin regimen. Inner and outer beauty perfectly complement each other in a “beauty-brain loop.”

The Beauty Prescription proposes a new standard for self-worth that goes beyond physical allurement. Dr. Ritvo writes that psychological well-being is a vital part of beauty. Self-confidence is an intention, a state of mind. Want to be beautiful instantaneously? Look in the mirror and just think: Other people see you as 20 percent better looking than you see yourself! Have you been telling yourself that you’re less attractive than you actually are? Focusing on your best qualities, allowing your best attributes and uniqueness to shine through, will only further the practical recommendations of Dr. Luftman, who prescribes top medical advice on keeping your skin, hair, and body in the best shape it can be.

When you make the most of what you’ve been given, you’ll feel great — and exude confidence. This is The Beauty Prescription: A new definition of beauty that transcends the airbrushed supermodels in glossy magazines.

The book includes:

  • Beauty Stories: Real life clinical examples, composites of some of the authors’ patients whose problems and resolutions offer thoughtful lessons about becoming more beautiful inside and out;
  • Beauty Boosters: Practical, low-cost “quick fixes” you can use to make yourself look and feel better fast;
  • Beauty Busters: Myths about beauty, mental health and cosmetic medicine. The authors debunk them all in informative sidebars.
  • Beauty Pearls: Prominent women — celebrities, beauty insiders, beauty editors — share their wisdom on what makes a woman beautiful.
  • Beauty R/X: Specific steps you can take for a more beautiful you, inside and out.

The Beauty Prescription strings together the four elements of the Beauty-Brain Loop — Inner Beauty, Health, Outer Beauty, and Environment — that will help bring beauty into your environment, from your lifestyle and your skincare to your diet and your self-esteem.

Beverly Hills, CA (The Open Press) July 28, 2008 — You may have read about the recent outbreak of eczema caused by sachets of fungicide in furniture. News reports said it affected thousands of people all over Europe. While this is an extreme situation, you may be surprised to know that exposure to chemicals and the resultant skin problems are actually very common. In fact, it happens every day to millions of people. What’s the solution? A revolutionary skin care product called shielding lotion.

The fungicide, known as dimethyl fumarate, is well-known to produce pronounced, difficult-to-treat eczema even at low concentrations. Some people have had very severe reactions. A 9-month old baby, for example, was taken to the hospital and had to use seven different skin care solutions and medications to help the problem. Even animals are affected – one dog lost all his hair from lying on one of the offending sofas and the owners spent about $2000 at the vet.

The story has been all over the news for months. However, what isn’t all over the news, and probably should be, is the fact that millions of people are suffering from eczema every day who are also attacked by irritant chemicals. The most common are nickel (found in costume jewelry, belt buckles, and so on), perfumes, scented soaps and other skin care products, detergents, household cleaning products and even medications – including some prescription-only skin care products designed to treat eczema. Our skin is also under seige from the chemicals and pollutants in the air.

The best remedy for this is obviously to avoid contact with anything that causes a reaction. However, while it’s easy to figure out the cause when the reaction is immediate and severe, it’s can be a real chore when the problem is chronic.

What can you do about it? Start by removing the most likely culprits: Switch to natural cosmetics, skin care treatments and household cleaning products that don’t contain irritating substances, and use a filtering system that cleans the air in your homes.

However, no matter how much you purge your personal environment of irritating chemicals, you’re never going to be able to avoid them altogether. Just stepping outside will give you a healthy dose. And that’s where a shielding lotion comes in.

A good shielding lotion bonds with the outer layer of the skin to form a new, protective layer that locks out chemcials. It is very effective as eczema treatment (and works miracles on dry skin) and is now recommended by thousands of doctors.

While it’s unlikely that fungicide sachets will ever be in furniture again, this incident was really just an extreme case of what we face every day. Protect your skin, and the rest of your body, by using natural household and skin care products – and don’t forget the shielding lotion!

We’ve been talking lately about the ads you see at the top and to the right of this blog. We’ve been talking about either taking them down or putting new ones on here.

I know there’s some products I’d really love to see in the ads section even though I’ve tried every one of the single products as well as most of the products in the ads for skin care online stores that advertise here.

Over the next few weeks, we’re going to be doing some changes with the blog. We’re going to talk more about some of the cool places we find online as well as talk more about the products that we liked - and didn’t like when we used them.

Hopefully, what we’re going to write in the future will help you out with product decisions. Until then, take good care.

Skin Rejuvenation Treatment

One of the many things I enjoy about writing a blog for skin care is the amount of tips and advice that you have access to online. One of the best places to find these tips is through article directories.

You can find advice on just about anything with these article directories. Here is an article I just found:

Skin Rejuvenation Treatment

You want younger, fresher looking skin, but you don’t have the money or desire to go through the invasive process of a facelift. What other type of facial skin rejuvenation techniques are there that could produce age-reducing effects? Fortunately, there are several different methods of skin treatments available today that don’t involve incisions, stitches, or a whole lot of money. Three of the best options today are laser skin resurfacing, microdermabrasion, and facials.

Laser skin resurfacing is an excellent way to turn the clock back ten years on your face by eliminating your wrinkles, laugh lines, and crow’s feet. The skin on your face is resurfaced with the aid of a carbon dioxide laser which gently removes the oldest, top layers. The eradication of these layers allows new, healthy surface to cover the area and natural collagen production is stimulated to give you a tighter, smoother look.

The procedure is done under local anesthesia and there will be little or no pain afterwards. It does take about two weeks for rawness and swelling to subside as the new surface fills in and heals. The redness will continue for up to 3 months after which you will be able to enjoy the full benefit of the procedure. The risks include possible scarring, infection, or cold sore breakouts. Ideal candidates include basically anyone wanting to erase wrinkles, but results will be most dramatic for those with light complexions. The cost can run anywhere from $1000 to $3000.

Another great option is the microdermabrasion, or the power peel. This is a procedure that takes less than an hour and is very safe. It is most commonly used to get rid of acne, stretch marks, wrinkles, and age spots. Microdermabrasion involves blasting your face with a jet of tiny crystals made up of aluminum oxide, zinc oxide, corundum, sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, and magnesium oxide. These crystals clear out all the old dead skin cells, opening up your pores and leaving fresh, new surface on the face. You may have to have several treatments, depending on the extent of damage on facial surface, but after a few days when it becomes a little dry and flaky, you will have a younger look that will last for several years. There are virtually no risks involved and the cost of the procedure run in the range of $75 to $200.

And of course, you have the option of the basic facial. While the results will not be as dramatic and you may have to get treatments every four to six weeks, the cost is lower and there is very little risk of infection or complications. A facial consists of good cleansing of your skin by a licensed esthetician. The esthetician analyzes your skin with the use of a bright magnifying lamp, after which she exfoliates it with a vapor stream. This is followed by a facial massage, a mud mask, and the application of moisturizing creams. Anyone can get a facial as there are basically no risk factors and the cost is about $30 to $75 dollars.

So before you invest time and money into a complicated face lift surgery, check into the great skin rejuvenation options available. You will probably end up saving yourself a lot of pain and money!

Baltimore plastic surgery offers skin rejuvenation treatment for those who don’t prefer invasive surgery. Cosmetic Surgery Center of Maryland is the right place to get tighter, smoother and younger look. Visit http://www.drcohenplasticsurgery.com/ for various skin rejuvenation options available.

Trustworthy Skincare Advice

Do a Google.com search for “skincare” and what you get is a commercialized version of crap that people write to promote products. Seriously, do they think we fall for that? The text is stupid.

Most of the time about.com comes up on the top of the search results. I personally hate about.com because their content isn’t quality at all. The only reason their around is to make a dollar or two off of you. To promote their own advertisers’ best interests.

Their advice stinks to high heaven!!!!!!

Is there anybody out there that isn’t just trying to make a buck? Is there anyone out there that has good advice instead of promoting something to make a dollar?

Come on. I understand the need for money, but why don’t you put out some give some tips or at least a few good suggestions once and a while? Huh? Pricks!
